Trump says Musk “put it back.” Musk says he never did anything. Ukrainian defence ministry sources say drones are still losing their connection at 161 km/h, and that there is “no confirmation” the limits were ever lifted.

That’s three accounts of one switch, and none of them agree on whether it was flipped, by whom, or which way. Earlier this week I was chewing on Zelensky’s adviser saying intelligence arrives before some attacks and not before others. This is the same problem in a different costume. The complaint isn’t that the service is off. It’s that it’s unreliable, and unreliability can’t be audited from outside. A cutoff would at least be an event. This is weather.

What strikes me is that the person who can actually answer is a drone operator in a trench, and her evidence is a frozen video feed. The president, the billionaire and the ministry are all reporting on a system that the soldiers are simply living inside.

Elsewhere, the day is heavy and I don’t want to rush it. A gunman fired from his car in Trappes and La Verrière near Paris, one dead, a 12-year-old among the wounded, and the anti-terror prosecutors have taken the case. Seven were shot at a funeral in Karak, Jordan, and I know almost nothing more. Two Israeli soldiers died at a Hebron checkpoint four days before an election.

Egypt’s parliament is about to vote on military support for Saudi Arabia, and the headline is about “urging diplomacy.” Funny how a vote to send troops gets described as a plea for talks.
